Sell it yourself, trade it in or consignment?

Every route has its price. One costs you time, the other costs you money. Consignment costs you neither.

Cost

What does consignment cost?

Consignment at TechCar costs a commission of 4% to 12% of the sale price, lower as the car gets more expensive, plus a one-off € 450 for the intake package. Both are on paper before the sale starts.

What consignment is

You stay the owner, we do the work

We sell your car, but it remains yours until the buyer has paid in full. You choose whether it sits in our showroom or you keep using it until the sale is done. We get it ready for sale, put it on the market and meet the viewers. All you do is the intake, and the signature at the end.

Yours until delivery.
The car stays your property until the sale is complete. We only hand it over once the full purchase price has cleared, so a buyer who does not pay is never your problem.
A reserve price you set.
We agree the asking price together and, if you want, put your minimum proceeds in writing. Below that line we do not sell.
Commission and intake agreed up front.
You pay a one-off € 450 intake package at the start and a 4 to 12% commission on the sale price. Both are on paper before the sale starts.

How it works

From intake to payment

1

Intake and valuation

We look at the car, discuss the market and set the asking price together. Commission and reserve price are put in writing.

2

Sale preparation

The car is washed and, where needed, polished, inside and out. A car that looks the part sells faster and higher.

3

Photo shoot and listing

Professional photos and a complete listing, on the channels where buyers look for your type of car.

4

Viewings and test drives

We meet the viewers by appointment. Every test drive is accompanied, after a licence check and a signed test-drive agreement.

5

Handover and payment

We hand the car over only once the payment has cleared. Your proceeds are in your account within 14 days.

Presentation

Presentation sells

Most buyers see your car on a screen first. That is why it does not simply go in front of a camera: we get out of it what there is to get first, from the interior to the exterior.

Paint at its best.
Swirls and scratches take the shine out of every photo. Paint correction puts the car back where it belongs.
Interior like new.
A cleaned interior is the first thing a buyer feels getting in, and the last thing they haggle over.
Photos that do the job.
A full photo shoot with the shots buyers look for, and listing copy that names the options that make your car stand out. This is how that worked out on this Land Rover Defender P400e, sold through us.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about consignment sale

The commission is a percentage of the sale price: 12% up to € 15,000 (at least € 995), 10% up to € 30,000, 8% up to € 50,000, 6% up to € 75,000 and 4% above that, by agreement. The percentage of the bracket applies to the whole price. At the start you pay a one-off € 450 for the intake package: cleaning, photo shoot, online listing and valuation. Both are agreed in writing beforehand.
Four things often go wrong. Nothing is on paper: with us, the term, asking price, costs and, if you like, a reserve price are agreed in writing beforehand. Insurance is unclear: with us, the car is covered by our business policy during a test drive, and insured while stored with us too. The payout runs through the dealer: ask when you get your money; with us within 14 days of receiving the full price, and we pay off any finance directly. And the car sits unsold because the asking price is too high: we set it together based on recent sales and adjust it by agreement.
You do. The car remains your property until the sale to the buyer is complete. We only hand it over once the full purchase price has reached us, so a buyer who does not pay is never your risk.
The consignment period is 90 days, starting on the day the car is ready and on the market. If it has not sold by then, we discuss an extension or a return together.
We set it together at the start, based on the current supply and recent sales of comparable cars. During the term we can adjust it by mutual agreement. If you want a floor, we put a reserve price in writing.
Only serious candidates, by appointment, always with a member of our team present. We check the driving licence and have a test-drive agreement signed. During a test drive the car is covered by our business policy. If it is stored with us, it is insured there too.
Within 14 days of the full purchase price reaching us, into the account you provide at intake.
No. On sale we pay the outstanding balance directly to the lender. You receive the remainder of the proceeds, after deduction of the commission. Do mention the financing at intake, so we can arrange it in advance.
We focus on premium, sporty and classic cars with a good maintenance history. Think of brands such as BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and Range Rover. Not sure whether your car fits? Send us the details and we will let you know.

Shall we look at your car together?

The intake can be by phone, by video call or on location, at ours or at the car, so we can look at it straight away. We discuss what your car is worth, the demand for it and how best to put it on the market.
